Liam Rides Again

We have a nearby playground where a number of riding toys have been “donated” for use by visitors of the park. Liam has mastered the art of riding down the big hill. Behold:

Paige is Sick

Sometimes, when Paige is sick, she makes this awful moaning sound with every breath. It’s particularly awful since there is nothing you can do- she doesn’t want food, drink, being held, put to bed, etc. Awful.

Roundup

I found these in a file on my desktop from months ago.  I thought I’d already uploaded them here.  I’m losing my mind.

“Smile, Paige!” (aka: “My name is Paige Connolly and I don’t do a dadgum thing I don’t feel like doing.  Ever.”)

An attempt at getting them in the same shot:

img_1689.jpg

These were taken so long ago that this outfit no longer fits her.  Which to be fair is also true of clothes she was able to wear two weeks ago…

img_1690.jpg

“Oh, dear me!”

img_1691.jpg

I just love what sibling rivalry has done for my ability to get good pictures of Liam.  All I have to do is try to take pictures of Paige and Liam jumps in front of the camera and volunteers a pose.  After failing to get good pictures of him on any regular basis for over a year, this is a welcome change.  Just look at this face!

img_1702.jpg

Photobomb:

img_1703.jpg

So sweet.

img_1708.jpg

Cheese!

img_1712.jpg

Why do my children insist on playing under the kitchen table (which is the dirtiest place in the whole house…and that’s saying a whole lot these days)?

img_1722.jpg

Partners in crime:

img_1728.jpg

It’s shots like this one that make me feel justified in following them around with the camera from time to time:

img_1745.jpg

Sneaky girl:

img_1748.jpg

Caught!

img_1754.jpg

“Check me out!”

img_1762.jpg

img_1767.jpg

img_1770.jpg

Another attempt at a shot of them together:

img_1780.jpg

This was the day Liam’s monkey costume came in the mail.  He rushed immediately to try it on and gave me this pose which made me feel much better about ordering his costume rather than making it…

Paige gets in on that sweet dress-up action:

Monkeying around:

“Hey, Liam.  Show me your best monkey impression.”

I have no idea what this face was about but I love it.

img_1937.jpg

img_1940.jpg

Love.

img_1947.jpg

One goes in.  The other comes out.  Rinse and repeat.  And again.  And so on and so forth.  Until someone starts crying…

What is it about a baby on a bug?

Posing in his school-photo-day duds:

img_2012.jpg

You can’t tell how much I’m loving being able to take his picture again, can you?

img_2018.jpg

I have no idea what the context of this picture is, but I love it.

img_2369.jpg

That’s all for now.  And possibly for a while.  I make no promises these days…

Halloween 2011

I’ll refer you to the last post to explain why I’m posting Halloween pictures in December.  Also?  Baby Girl can’t quite decide if she’s going to give up her morning nap or not but as of this week she’s not napping in the morning.  And this?  This means that there is no time for anything that does not directly involve keeping children alive.  The house is filthy.  The laundry pile is impressive.  The number of times we’ve eaten food that wasn’t prepared at home (and to be clear:  right now I count Trader Joe’s pizzas and giant bowls of cereal for dinner as “prepared at home”) is insane.  I honestly have no idea what happened to the month of November.  With all that said:  here’re the pictures from Halloween.

Getting ready to head out:

img_2431.jpg

img_2434.jpg

As soon as Paige caught a glimpse of herself in the mirror she started giggling and didn’t stop until we got her out of the car.  It was awesome.

Love.

img_2451.jpg

img_2455.jpg

We started out at the Koulouris’s house since their street has lots of kids and much less traffic than ours.  Paige and James spent most of the time riding in the wagon together while trading candy with each other (or putting it in Liam’s bag: a major big brother benefit).  They were adorable!

img_2458.jpg

Heading up a neighbor’s driveway:

img_2483.jpg

Paige makes sure the goodies are safe:

img_2499.jpg

Liam cashes in:

img_2500.jpg

“Look, Dad!  No hands!”

img_2503.jpg

We let Paige play with a lollipop she found in the treat bag.  Her very high interest level should have been a clue to me but I just thought she’d seen Liam eating one and was mimicking his behavior.  As it turns out?  She managed to chew through the wrapper and was helping herself.  Oy.

img_2506.jpg

Banana bug:

img_2515.jpg

“Whoa, Liam.  What a haul!”

img_2527.jpg

Paige got to try one piece of chocolate:

img_2542.jpg

She almost took my finger off going back for more!

img_2550.jpg

We have a “you can eat all you want on Halloween night” rule and Liam took full advantage.  Even still?  The bowl where we poured the remainder isn’t yet empty.  I’m pretty sure this means the statute of limitations hasn’t run out on posting Halloween pictures…

Paige Walks

Pumpkin Carving 2011

After last year’s “oops we’re too exhausted to live and it’s already Halloween and we completely forgot to carve our pumpkin…good thing Liam’s not old enough to notice and/or care” debacle we made sure to make time for pumpkin carving.  Liam was *very* excited.

Tools at the ready!

img_2233.jpg

“Oooooh”

img_2235.jpg

img_2236.jpg

And we have liftoff:

img_2246.jpg

Liam’s expressions during the process were killer:

img_2248.jpg

img_2249.jpg

img_2252.jpg

“Hey, Liam.  How do you feel about pumpkin carving?”

img_2254.jpg

Checking out the progress:

Checking out Daddy’s handiwork:

img_2294.jpg

Paige woke up from her nap and came in to check out the happenings:

img_2299.jpg

“Hey, Liam.  What’s that?”

img_2301.jpg

“Well, Paigey — that’s a Jack-O-Lantern.  Isn’t it great?!”

img_2306.jpg

Finished product:

img_2311.jpg

Liam was very excited to get it outside to its proper place:

img_2322.jpg

Have I mentioned that Liam *loved* this Jack-O-Lantern?

img_2323.jpg

“Hey, Liam — show me what that Jack-O-Lantern looks like.”

img_2330.jpg

All lit up:

img_2382.jpg

Liam had a fantastic time (and Matt was right there with him) and he’s already asking when Halloween will come around again.  Also?  If Christmas is tomorrow.  And?  If his birthday is next week.

Soccer

A couple of weeks ago I took the camera with me to what was supposed to be one (of two) of Liam’s soccer “games” for the season.  As it turned out, half of the other team had a stomach virus and the other half of the team was instructed to stay home as a precaution.  So basically Liam had a cheering section for his practice.  He loved it.

Liam gets warmed up:

img_2019.jpg

img_2021.jpg

And here’s where he became aware that I was taking pictures…

img_2022.jpg

…and started milking it for all it was worth.

img_2039.jpg

These days I find that I get the best pictures of Liam when he’s aware that I’ve just been taking pictures of Paige.  Sometimes sibling jealousy works in my favor.

“Which way should you shoot the ball?”

img_2114.jpg

This is what a “scrimmage” of 3 year olds looks like (at least for the first 20 seconds or so until there is a total breakdown and people are running off the field or staring into space…):

img_2116.jpg

A rare shot of Paige looking at the camera:

img_2131.jpg

At this point she was still interested in what was happening on the field:

img_2135.jpg

Liam has a tendency to play with the flag when he’s supposed to play the game:

img_2141.jpg

(Note that the other children are largely chasing after the ball while my child is mugging hard for my camera)

img_2149.jpg

Water break!

img_2151.jpg

More mugging:

img_2153.jpg

“Go Team Bananas!”

img_2159.jpg

“Going Bananas!”

img_2162.jpg

Classic Liam move — running in one direction while looking in another:

img_2163.jpg

Although the majority of these pictures may tell a different story, the fact that they were in the process of running in the wrong direction, off their field, and onto an adjacent one was not an infrequent occurrence…

img_2164.jpg

This was the crown jewel of the running-in-the-wrong-direction-off-the-field shots as in this case Liam fully believed that he was scoring a goal.  In the backside of the net.  On another field.

img_2215.jpg

At some point taking pictures of the scrimmage became harder and harder and I took advantage of the opportunity to snap some of Paige who was having an absolute ball.  Pun intended.

img_2189.jpg

img_2191.jpg

img_2198.jpg

img_2202.jpg

It should be noted that she wasn’t walking independently at this point and yet her ball handling skills still surpassed those of half the children on the field:

img_2204.jpg

I would attempt to take some pictures of his last “game” this Wednesday but without the additional cheering section to watch Paige I’m afraid it’s nearly impossible.  That girl is on the move these days!  Fingers crossed that it goes better than last week (at which time we were unaware that Liam was hours away from tossing his cookies and that his physical complaints probably weren’t solely an attempt to get out of playing the game).  At this point I’ll settle for not having to make any trips to the porta potty with both kids in tow…

Pumpkin Pickin’ 2011

Several weeks ago we headed out to Berry Patch Farms to pick out our pumpkin.  Last year I think Paige was around 6 weeks old when we went and I’m so glad that this year we were past the zombie phase of parenting.  At least the initial, interminable, zombie phase…

Our camera died shortly after we arrived and the spare battery had been forgotten at home but luckily Gillian had her camera and we picked up where we left off.

Checking out the animals:

img_1640.jpg

img_1642.jpg

img_1643.jpg

Paige is not amused.  Something tells me I’m gonna see a lot more of this face in about 11 years or so…

img_1644.jpg

Checking out the tractor with Aunt G:

Paige jumps in:

Could she be any more bershon?

img_1905.jpg

Hayride!

img_1907.jpg

img_1911.jpg

Checking out the baby pumpkins:

img_1919.jpg

Liam’s getting a lot better about making crazy faces when I ask for a smile, but we’re not quite there yet…

img_1922.jpg

Off to find the big pumpkins:

img_1926.jpg

Bumpy little guy:

img_1927.jpg

Paige hasn’t learned how to run away from us yet so we can still get pictures like this…

img_1928.jpg

And this:

img_1929.jpg

Brother hug:

img_1933.jpg

img_1943.jpg

Paige loved the stems…

img_1946.jpg

…but neither kid loved the idea of sitting still and smiling at the camera.  This is as close as we got (and this time it was Liam with the bershon).

img_1947.jpg

I’m nothing if not determined…

Paige Turns One, Part Two

At this point it’s getting a little ridiculous to apologize for the tardiness of these posts…so I’ll just dive right in.

We celebrated Paige’s birthday with a family party the weekend after her birthday.  I ended up catching some horrible virus (from her) the day before and Matt actually had to stay home from work because I was too sick to take care of the kids.  We made it through the party and I collapsed in a heap.  I’m not entirely sure I’ve recovered even 6 weeks later, but I digress…

We had a loose daisy theme (the theme was loose, the daisies weren’t) and the food matched up accordingly.

Daisy finger sandwiches:

img_1161.jpg

Personalized Daisy Lollipops (also personalized Hershey Kisses, but Matt was in charge of the pictures because I was sick as a dog and he forgot to catch a shot of those):

img_1152.jpg

Daisy smash cake (courtesy of Gran):

img_1153.jpg

Daisy non-smash cake (also courtesy of Gran):

img_1154.jpg

Daisy cupcakes (again, Gran):

img_1155.jpg

More daisy lollipops:

img_1156.jpg

Daisy cucumbers (because I am insane):

img_1160.jpg

The birthday girl wakes up from her nap and gets into her party duds.  [I was in the process of making her a daisy dress when I got sick so we improvised with this dress I’d already made.  There was no diaper cover and I was bummed about not finishing the dress I’d planned (I did finish it eventually — another post for another day) but she was adorable, if I do say so myself.]

img_1169.jpg

A little Mama Love for the birthday girl:

img_1178.jpg

Gran takes a turn as Paige begins to fully wake up:

img_1184.jpg

Paige works on her walking with Gran:

Taking a break to hang out with some of her guests.  And to see if she can snatch a camera.  Allegedly.

img_1247.jpg

Thwarted, she settles for a little walking with Pok:

img_1248.jpg

Liam supervises the situation as Paige gets back to business:

img_1250.jpg

She didn’t have to be shown how the present thing works more than once…

img_1252.jpg

Checking out the goods:

img_1259.jpg

“Look at that!”

img_1263.jpg

“Instruments!”

img_1286.jpg

“Wiggly Giggly!”

img_1317.jpg

Boy in a box.

img_1325.jpg

Daisy Girl:

img_1338.jpg

(You don’t think she’s excited, do you…?)

img_1340.jpg

“Yesssssssss.”

img_1343.jpg

“CAKE!”

img_1351.jpg

“My, oh my!”

img_1358.jpg

And there’s the inevitable tongue-of-concentration:

img_1360.jpg

After some deliberation she decides the flowers must be removed before cake consumption may begin.

img_1369.jpg

Chocolate teeth:

img_1374.jpg

Careful demolition:

img_1378.jpg

img_1381.jpg

“Hey, Mama!  Check me out!”

img_1416.jpg

And here’s where I once again dissolve into a heap of inability to edit.  Picture after picture after picture of Paige covered in cake…

There have been so many more pictures taken between this and now but I make no promises as to how fast I can get them posted…

Paige Turns One, Part One

Here’s the first batch of Paige’s birthday photos.  Only a month and 3 days late!

For Paige’s initial birthday celebration (on her birthday, as opposed to her bigger celebration which was 4 days later) Liam and I made chocolate chip cookie cupcakes.  He helped measure, mix, stir and decorate.

Getting ready for the icing and sprinkles:

img_0752.jpg

Sheer concentration:

img_0758.jpg

Making sure they weren’t poisonous:

img_0762.jpg

They passed muster!

img_0764.jpg

The tongue of self satisfaction:

img_0776.jpg

Finished product(s):

img_0784.jpg

The birthday girl, her birthday goods, and her brother.  Taking a bite out of her hand.

img_0799.jpg

Birthday hug!

img_0806.jpg

It may have taken him a full year…

img_0810.jpg

…but I think Liam’s starting to get the hang of this whole big brother thing.

img_0814.jpg

The goods:

img_0816.jpg

Liam’s handiwork:

img_0817.jpg

Ta da!

img_0819.jpg

“You’re gonna let me eat those?!”

img_0825.jpg

Getting ready to make a wish:

img_0837.jpg

Blowing out the candle (with a little help from Liam and Daddy):

img_0842.jpg

“That was it?”

img_0844.jpg

“Yay!”

img_0847.jpg

Getting down to business:

img_0852.jpg

Birthdays are so much fun!

img_0854.jpg

Testing the waters:

img_0856.jpg

Getting into the swing of things:

img_0867.jpg

A little help from Daddy:

img_0877.jpg

img_0881.jpg

Not so sure…

img_0884.jpg

“What is this on my tongue?”

img_0885.jpg

img_0898.jpg

“Oh, I see how this works!”

img_0900.jpg

The tongue of utter concentration:

img_0901.jpg

Things really got rolling at this point:

img_0906.jpg

img_0912.jpg

The key is double-fisting.

img_0917.jpg

And this is the point in the post where I admit to being incapable of picking out just a few pictures and proceed to post 8,032 almost identical photos in a row.  But I ask you:  With this face how am I supposed to choose?

img_0919.jpg

img_0927.jpg

The many (chocolatey) faces of Paige:

img_0928.jpg

img_0929.jpg

img_0931.jpg

img_0943.jpg

img_0950.jpg

“Wow!  Look at that tummy!”

img_0972.jpg

“But no tummy is ever too full for chocolate, right?”

img_0978.jpg

“Right.”

img_0981.jpg

“Oooooooooh”

img_0982.jpg

img_0989.jpg

Liam enjoyed himself as well:

img_1010.jpg

You can’t tell, can you?

img_1026.jpg

“What?”

img_1029.jpg

Chocolate teeth!

img_1030.jpg

“Whatcha got there, Mama?”

img_1035.jpg

img_1038.jpg

Puffs chaser:

img_1054.jpg

img_1055.jpg

img_1056.jpg

I warned you about the lack of editing, didn’t I?

img_1059.jpg

img_1061.jpg

img_1064.jpg

img_1066.jpg

And again I ask you: With a face like this?

img_1068.jpg

img_1083.jpg

How am I supposed to choose?

img_1091.jpg

img_1098.jpg

Birthday feet:

img_1126.jpg

Winding down…

img_1129.jpg

…but never too tired for a silly face.

img_1130.jpg

Ready to be hosed down:

img_1145.jpg

“Dirty?  Who?  Me?”

img_1148.jpg

And after being doused with a giant cup of water…

img_1149.jpg

…our Sweet Baby Girl’s first birthday came to a close.

Next up?  The party!
