Yesterday we went to the Moore’s house to hang out with Jessica and Walker. Walker calls Jessica Mommy. Liam has always called me Mama. When Walker wanted Jessica’s attention he screamed “MaaaaMeeeee.” Liam picked up on this but in the process I think he failed to realize two important points: 1: This word does not need to be yelled at top volume in order to be effective and 2: “MaaaaMeeeee” is the same thing as Mama. The result is that he’s been running around the house since yesterday (in addition to most of the car ride home) screaming “MaaaaMeeeee” at top volume although he has absolutely no idea why he’s saying it.
I call my mama Mama. I even introduce her that way; ‘This is my mama, Grace’
In general I think mom names change with the kid’s age; 0-4 or being sweet = mommy, 5-11 or whining = mama, over 12 or anytime in public = mom.
The difference here is that I really think he has no idea what “Mommy” means. He knows Walker is screaming the word, but as far as Liam is concerned, Walker’s Mommy’s name is Jessica (or Jeff-ca).
As a sidenote: I started out with Mommy and then moved on to Mom but I’m pretty sure my sister called Mom “Mama” all the way through.
