Liamisms

Every time I have a coughing fit, Liam says “Are you okay, Mama?” with a look of genuine concern.  Even while knowing fully that he’s mimicking my own behavior when he coughs, it’s almost cute enough to make me want to have another coughing fit.

At some point recently I took a sip of water while Liam was sitting with me and said “Mmmm, Refreshing!” afterward.  Now every time Liam wants to emphatically drink anything he takes a sip and follows it with an enthusiastic “Mmmm, Fresh Air!”  No amount of explanation fixes the pronunciation and it’s so cute that I’ve quit bothering to say anything.

Due to a combination of exposure to Super Why and driving in the car with me (where I’ve replaced naughty words with extreme sarcasm when yelling at other drivers) Liam has an extensive vocabulary of exclamations to express any negative reaction he may have.  The following are just a few examples:  “Double Drats!;” “Awesome people, just awesome…;” “What is the matter with you?;” “Oh Great…;” and the ubiquitous “Oh, quackers!”  Coming from a two-year-old these exclamations are hilarious.  Coming from any child born to me and Matt they’re par for the course.  If he’d make it to 3 without sarcasm in his repertoire we might have considered DNA testing…
