Caught Red(phone)-Handed

Today as I was getting ready to shower I heard Liam (with his ear obviously pressed up against the door) say to his Gran “Hey Gran, Mama’s in there catching ice cream.  Do you hear it?  Do you hear her catching the ice cream?”  My mom responded as any normal person would:  “What are you talking about?  Liam, your mama’s in there getting ready to take a shower.”

What my mom didn’t know was that Liam was absolutely right.

I was sitting on the toilet playing “Scoops” which is a game I have on my phone that involves catching scoops of ice cream in a cone as they fall from the sky.  Liam heard the music playing and called me out.  I decided to own up to playing-while-peeing and let my mom in on what was happening.

I cannot read articles, play games, or check my e-mail anymore without constant child chirping in the background and I fully admit that sometimes I hide in the bathroom (sometimes even locking the door since Liam’s idea of knocking before he enters a room involves knocking insistently as he opens the door without even pretending to wait for a response).  I’m going to go ahead and pass this off on my mother who also fully admits to hiding in our pantry when my sister and I were little to sneak-eat chocolate without the benefit of a pint-sized peanut gallery.

I can’t help it, it’s in the genes.

  1. At least you get to sit down in the bathroom. I had to stand in the pantry. One will do almost anything for chocolate.
