Surprise!

This morning I started to get myself ready for the day after I put Paige down for her morning nap.  I went in the living room and told Liam that I was going to hop into the shower and that he should play quietly and come to get me if he needed anything.  He responded with his usual “Okay, Mama” and I went to the bathroom to get things started.

A few minutes later as I was shampooing my hair I heard the bathroom door open and Liam came in rambling on about the monster under the couch and how it was scary and how he didn’t want it to get him and so on and so forth.  I told him that he should go in there and tell that monster that “Mama says to go home” and that I was sure he wouldn’t have any trouble with that monster anymore.  He replied:  “Okay, Mama.  I’ll do it.  I’ll do that.”  Then I heard the door slam again and assumed he was off to banish the monster.

And guess what?  (you guessed it)  He didn’t go anywhere to banish any monsters.

I felt a slight draft, not uncommon these days since the bathroom window was open, and then I turned around and nearly jumped out of my skin because I was no longer alone in the shower.  While I was facing the water washing my face Liam had disrobed and slipped into the shower behind me.

The fact that his vocabulary didn’t grow by one four-letter word today is something of which I’m extremely proud.
