Siesta Key 2011, Part One

I wasn’t able to post pictures from our trip while we were still there because the internet connection was slow and spotty.  I took somewhere in the neighborhood of 1500 pictures over the course of 12 days so there are many posts to come.  Here we go!

Baby Girl was *very* happy to be out of her carseat.  She made sure that we understood the extent of her displeasure while we were in the car but thankfully she also made sure she showed us the extent of her elation when we were out of the car.  Until she refused to nap well for a week or so…then we had to roll the tide of her fragile emotional state…but I digress.

“Whatchoo talkin’ ’bout, Daddy?”

Liam gets a little Mo love:

img_8758.jpg

There’s not much better than that!

Paige joins in:

Sneaky:

Paige loved the Coke bottles almost as much as her brother did:

Liam shows Paige how to break it down:

img_8792.jpg

After Liam’s first day in the pool he showed us his (what proved to be continuing) extreme displeasure for remaining dressed after finishing a swim.  Thankfully we had his hooded towel.  After a brief discussion about the difference between private and public places as they relate to private parts, he was ready to show off his duds:

img_8803.jpg

He took the “cover your private parts” admonition quite seriously…or he was making sure everything was still there…whichever…

“Who, me?”

img_8834.jpg

“Oh, Daddy.  I especially like your use of lines in this piece.  Very compelling.”

img_8835.jpg

Paige shows Liam what she thinks about him getting in her face:

img_8842.jpg

“Oh, Hi!”

img_8850.jpg

Paige has a little quality time with Mo (and her buttons):

Liam shares with Pok the finer points of Magna Doodle operation:

img_8885.jpg

img_8888.jpg

I’m not entirely sure what was happening here, but I’m certain that both involved parties were having fun…

During the trip Paige perfected her hands-free toy transportation method:

Next it was Paige’s turn to open her happy from Mo and Pok:

img_8935.jpg

The tissue paper was a big hit:

And so were the wobblers inside:

Paige gets suited up for the first time:

img_8955.jpg

She likes her suit, but she loves her feet:

img_8957.jpg

Hooray!

img_8958.jpg

She’s ready for the beach:

img_8963.jpg

img_8964.jpg

And if you think these shots are adorable, just wait for the next installment of the SK2011 series:  Paige’s first day at the beach.  Stay tuned!

And So It Begins…

Paige can now stand up on her own from a sitting position without support and last night she took two unassisted steps towards me.  I don’t think she liked being as unsteady on her feet as she was so she wouldn’t try it again.  I’m hoping that fear lasts for at least a month or so so we can hold off the inevitable, but I’m not holding my breath…

Paige & Sylvie

PJ and Sylvie came for a visit yesterday.  There were no meltdowns and no one drew blood from anyone else so despite the fact that we are still waiting for that “perfect shot” it was a lovely visit.

“Hi, Sylvie!”

img_8498.jpg

Paige surveys the situation:

img_8500.jpg

“You see, Sylvie — this is how a xylophone works.”

img_8501.jpg

Sizing each other up:

img_8502.jpg

“Hey, Sylvie.  I love your new teeth.  They really bring out your smile!”

img_8505.jpg

“Hey, Paige.  Do you want to check your e-mail when I’m finished?”

img_8508.jpg

“Thanks, Sylvie.  I’ve gotta keep a close eye on my stock portfolio these days.”

img_8510.jpg

The pigtails just kill me.

img_8516.jpg

Chatting.

img_8520.jpg

Hey, Sylvie.  I think you’ve got a little something there.  Don’t worry, I’ve got my hands free, so I can take care of that for you.”

img_8521.jpg

“No worries, I got it.”

img_8522.jpg

I call this one “Paigezilla Takes The Living Room (while Sylvie looks on)”

img_8534.jpg

Sylvie gives kisses.  Lots of kisses.  It’s just too cute for words.  Sometimes, though?  Paige just moves too fast for her and Sylvie inadvertently eats a little ear.  I’m pretty sure that this is the exact situation to which they were referring when they (whoever “they” is) said: “You live, you learn.”  I’m also fairly sure that I’m way past the threshold of “too tired to blog.”  Allegedly.

img_8540.jpg

“Hey, Paige?  Do you know about The Very Hungry Caterpillar?”

img_8543.jpg

“Paige.  It is very important that you know about Eric Carle.  He is something of a children’s Shakespeare and I fear that your childhood cannot be complete without him.  Do you understand the importance of this?”

“Don’t worry, Sylvie.  I have a bookshelf full of Eric Carle.  Everything will be fine.”

img_8544.jpg

“Oh, Paige!  I could just kiss you!  In fact?  I *will* kiss you!”

img_8547.jpg

Full of wonder:

img_8550.jpg

So many captions, so little time…

img_8552.jpg

Captivated by PJ:

img_8558.jpg

“Let’s try the xylophone one more time, Sylvie.”

img_8562.jpg

“I’m quite pleased with your enthusiasm here Sylvie, but I’m afraid this is a mallet, not a lollipop.”

img_8565.jpg

“So these two nuns walk into a bar…”

img_8567.jpg

So sweet.

img_8570.jpg

Here’s where I had the genius idea that maybe we could get a shot of both girls together if we put them in PJ’s lap.  Paige had other ideas.  If I could do a virtual flip book with these I would…

It’s never good when Paige opens up with the tongue-of-sheer-concentration…

img_8573.jpg

And then moves quickly into the tongue-of-utter-devilishness…

img_8574.jpg

Poor Sylvie was completely unprepared for this:

img_8575.jpg

Sylvie’s getting smashed in the face and she’s still amused by the situation:

img_8576.jpg

Paige briefly halts the prison break attempts in favor of a shot at eating PJ’s shoes:

img_8577.jpg

Thwarted again.

img_8578.jpg

While Paige continues to put on a show Sylvie decides it might be time for a little snack break:

img_8579.jpg

Paige tries the other direction.  In retrospect I’m sure PJ hopes that Sylvie didn’t absorb any of this…

img_8580.jpg

This is where PJ realizes that she’s being bested by a 10 month old:

img_8581.jpg

“Sweet Fancy Moses, Mama!  What on earth is she trying to do?”

img_8582.jpg

There was just no way to stop this train after it was in motion.

img_8583.jpg

And the only appropriate response was peals of laughter.

img_8584.jpg

Aaaaaannnnnd…she’s off!

img_8586.jpg

I’ll never give up hope that that golden picture of the girls is somewhere out there in our future, just waiting to be taken…

Bathtime For Paige

“What?  Is there something on my face?”

img_8322.jpg

We were trying (unsuccessfully) to capture the look on her face when she realizes she’s going to get to take a bath.  Here, Matt was trying (once again, unsuccessfully) to coax it out of her.

img_8343.jpg

We didn’t capture her face, but we did capture the attempted swan dive into the tub from Matt’s lap.

Step one?  Diaper removal.

img_8347.jpg

“Whatchoo’ ‘talkin’ ’bout, Dad?”

img_8350.jpg

Paige lets us know that she’s number one at diaper-removal body-blocking:

img_8352.jpg

For Paige, nakedness gives her superhuman strength:

img_8353.jpg

“Maaaaaamaaaaaa!”

img_8354.jpg

Here’s where she attempts to take flight:

img_8355.jpg

Ahhhhhhh.

img_8361.jpg

You can’t tell that she loves the bath, can you?

img_8367.jpg

img_8368.jpg

img_8370.jpg

img_8373.jpg

Such sweetness:

img_8409.jpg

Sisterly adoration:

img_8419.jpg

Towel time:

img_8432.jpg

As cute as a bug in a rug:

img_8433.jpg

The way she looks at her dad is wonderful:

img_8437.jpg

W.O.W.

img_8444.jpg

This little piggy…

img_8451.jpg

img_8452.jpg

…went WEEWEEWEEWEEWEEWEEWEE, all the way home.

img_8456.jpg

Pictures like this make me just want to squeeze those cheeks.  And I’m her mother.  Who is with her ALL the time.  And right now she’s just in the next room.  Sleeping.  And I STILL want to go in there and squeeze her cheeks.

img_8459.jpg

And that cute little button nose…

img_8462.jpg

This is her “I’m so sleepy but also I’m goodnatured and you’re smiling at me so I’m going to try to smile back but I’m too tired to curl up the sides of my mouth the whole way so this is what you get right now” face:

img_8465.jpg

Kisses from Liam.  His aim was more than a little off here, but it’s the thought that counts, right?

img_8474.jpg

This is a little more like it.

img_8475.jpg

img_8479.jpg

img_8480.jpg

As with any good Liam interaction, kiss time quickly morphed into tickle time:

img_8489.jpg

img_8491.jpg

I just can’t wait to watch these two grow up together!

A Little Liam

In between running around like a wild man and his blossoming career as a soliloquinarian Liam was actually still for long enough for me to get a few shots of him for a change.  The first shot was the only organic one and I probably should have stopped there…

He looks so grown-up to me here:

img_8379.jpg

I asked for a smile, and I got one.

img_8381.jpg

img_8383.jpg

I wish I could describe just how Liam this shot is.  When he’s emphatically telling a story and he pauses for full effect he purses his lips like this.  What do you know?  I guess I *can* describe just how Liam this shot is…

img_8399.jpg

He’s a grinnin’ fool!

img_8404.jpg

“Hey Mama!  I’m smiling just like you asked me to do!  Have I smiled enough, yet?  Huh?  Huh?”

img_8405.jpg

Full of wonder.

img_8463.jpg

My precious boy.

img_8464.jpg

It was so nice to get a few shots of my Doodlebug for once.

Daddy & Daughter

Here are some pictures I caught recently of Matt and Paige.  So far she may not look too much like Matt, but she’s got so much of him in her.  These pictures are definitive proof of that fact.  The pictures say it all.

What can I say?  Like Daddy, like Daughter.

Latest Creations

I know it’s been a while since I have posted any updates to my rapidly growing list of sewing projects but I have a good excuse:  I got TWO new machines and I’ve been busy figuring things out!  My grandparents and parents decided to give me birthday presents (5 months early) and I now have a new sewing machine and a new serger!  Yay!  My old machine gave up the ghost (and produced tears) while I was working on this:

img_8589.jpg

I used the “Faux Chenille Blanket” tutorial found here.   As she says in the tutorial, this project was extremely time-consuming (although after I got up and running with my new machine I discovered that I was able to stitch at about twice the speed, so that helped a great deal) but I just LOVE how it turned out and I’m declaring it worth it.  Here are some close-ups:

img_8590.jpg

img_8591.jpg

Next up was my first attempt at an adult garment.  I used the “Spring Ruffle Top” tutorial found here (minus the pockets) to make a top for my mom.  It turned out really well and fits her like it was made for her (because it was)!

img_8178.jpg

I just love the back:

img_8180.jpg

Next up was a simple refashion.  I had a *really* long skirt that was also far too big in the waist, so I added elastic at the top, did a titch of shaping along the sides, added some straps and a sash, and voila!  A dress!

img_8494.jpg

This one was originally intended to be for me, but when I showed it to my mom she fell in love (and it fits her better to boot).  Ask and you shall receive, Mom!

img_8496.jpg

I have so many more projects in my queue that it keeps me up nights as I think of new ways to do things and new things to do.  I’m having such a blast and I’m so grateful that my family decided to treat me to some early birthday presents so I could continue to let the creative juices flow.

Thanks, y’all!

Air-Conditioned Playdate

Yesterday Jessica, Olivia, and Walker came over to hang out for most of the day.  The original plan was to go to the Gardens and let the kids hang out in the splash area but with a potential heat index of 110 and air quality alerts added on to the fact that Paige still isn’t 100% we decided to move the party indoors.  There was a whole lot of energy in our house yesterday!

Reading to Paige:

img_8184.jpg

img_8185.jpg

The boys spent a large portion of the day hiding under various blankets and jumping out at each other.

img_8188.jpg

They found this hilarious.

img_8189.jpg

img_8190.jpg

Apparently when you’re 3 there’s not much better than a tickle attack.

img_8195.jpg

See?

img_8196.jpg

Hilarity for all involved…

Liam prepares for Round Two while Walker mugs for the camera:

img_8236.jpg

If only I could get pictures this good of my own kids…maybe I should hand Jessica the camera next time.  Because come on, does it get much cuter than this?

img_8237.jpg

Pickin’ up the Liam and boppin’ him on the head:

img_8241.jpg

How adorable is this?

img_8243.jpg

And this?

img_8244.jpg

“Hey, Walker?  Whatcha got there?”

img_8245.jpg

Ice Cream!

img_8250.jpg

Train Time!

img_8254.jpg

img_8256.jpg

img_8259.jpg

img_8261.jpg

img_8265.jpg

Next up was a little Mario Kart:

img_8271.jpg

Such anticipation:

img_8272.jpg

Aaaaaannnnnd, they’re off!

img_8273.jpg

Such fervor:

img_8275.jpg

Such concentration:

img_8277.jpg

Such glee!  (So much glee, in fact, that Walker was unable to remain seated…)

img_8285.jpg

Well done, everyone!

img_8286.jpg

It’s been WAY too long since we got together and we’re hoping to do it again very soon!

Whew.

It’s been a busy couple of weeks.  This has meant not too many pictures taken and (obviously) no blog posting done.  Here are the few pictures we did catch:

Liam and Paige playing a game (which has no explanation) together:

img_8024.jpg

The Ear Game?

img_8025.jpg

The Nose Game?

img_8026.jpg

The Mouth Game?

img_8027.jpg

Ummmm…

img_8030.jpg

img_8033.jpg

img_8034.jpg

This kills me:

img_8037.jpg

img_8038.jpg

How am I supposed to caption something like this?

img_8040.jpg

Who?  Me?

img_8043.jpg

I’m far too innocent to have been the one who, moments ago, was attempting to punch my brother in the mouth…

img_8046.jpg

And I’m certainly not attempting to take a hunk of my brother’s hair out by the handful.

img_8048.jpg

Maestro Paige (directing her “Maiming of Liam” concerto)

img_8049.jpg

I don’t know what she’s doing but she sure is pleased with herself.

img_8050.jpg

“Here, Liam.  Lemme help you help you get your hair in line.  Just a little applesauce right here will do the trick!”

img_8052.jpg

Paige:  “Oh, no!  What’s that?”

Liam:  “Well, don’t poke it!”

img_8053.jpg

“Here, Liam.  Lemme help you help you get your ear in line.  Just a little tug (& a little applesauce) right here will do the trick!”

img_8054.jpg

“Perfection!”

img_8055.jpg

img_8056.jpg

Paige break:

img_8057.jpg

img_8084.jpg

img_8085.jpg

img_8115.jpg

Aaaaannnnd, we’re back.

img_8098.jpg

We had to wake Paige up from her nap on the 4th.  At first she was kind of stunned.

img_8123.jpg

Dylan had the same affect for the opposite reason:

img_8126.jpg

img_8127.jpg

This was his solution:

img_8132.jpg

Paige went the other way with it and decided to hang out with Jessi for a bit:

img_8138.jpg

That was all well and good until she spied those curls…

img_8141.jpg

img_8144.jpg

You’ve gotta give the kid credit for tenacity.

img_8146.jpg

A stick of butter in one hand and a scoop of chocolate ice cream in the other.  That’s my girl!

img_8148.jpg

There’s something about Paige…

img_8150.jpg

Wow.

img_8152.jpg

img_8156.jpg

And I’ll leave you with this:

img_8160.jpg

I don’t know if I’m more excited or terrified for her to learn how to talk so she can tell us what’s rattling around that brain of hers…

Latest Creations

This past week I tackled another first.  I made a bonnet for Paige (using THIS pattern).  I’m in love.  I definitely learned a few things on the first go-round but I’m still really pleased with the result.

Peekaboo!

img_7972.jpg

img_7975.jpg

img_7978.jpg

img_7988.jpg

Paige’s favorite detail was the tie:

img_8012.jpg

Nom, nom, nom…

img_8013.jpg

Hooray for bonnets!

img_8019.jpg

Next up was another pair of sleep pants for Liam.  As requested, it was time to break out the guitar fabric.

img_7942.jpg

I gave cuffs a shot this time, as well.

img_7943.jpg

img_7951.jpg

And of course, pockets!

img_7944.jpg

Perfect for hanging out with your baby sister:

And best of all?  Made for (quite literally) wearing to Pajama Day at summer camp!
