I’m Sew In

Let the pun parade continue!

I have finished a couple more things in the last week.  It turns out if you only watch television while in bed or on the treadmill there’s a lot more time for other things.  Also if you stay up too late, let your 3 year-old run wild, and dream about pattern modifications…but that’s neither here nor there.

First up is a modification of the pillowcase dress from my last post (the one with red gingham and blue star fabric).  Instead of the ribbon at the neck I made a casing for some elastic and added buttons to the shoulders.  I’m really pleased with how it turned out and I think I’ll definitely use this method again.

Here’re some close-ups of the neck and button on the shoulder:

Next up was a very simple upcycling project.  I took one of my old t-shirts (which was stained under the arms and had a hole in the seam at the neck), removed the sleeves (and the stains right along with them), and used the shirring technique from my last post to add some sleeves and make the neck small enough.  Because this t-shirt was so well-loved (read: old…I remember buying it when I was working as a babysitter during the summer so it was either 1994, 1995, 0r 1996) it was extremely soft and I think this will make for a fantastic toddler summer nightgown.  As always, it’s far from perfect but I can’t wait to explore the concept even further.

Last (but certainly not least) comes my debut boy project.  Liam had become increasingly aware of both the amount of time I was spending in the sewing room and the fact that the product of all of that time was focused on Paige.  I asked him if he’d like a pair of sleep pants and he was emphatic in his response, “Oh Yes, Mama!  I would LOVE that!”  He then proceeded to ask me each day if I was going to make his sleep pants.  Last night I took three hours out of the evening while Matt worked and whipped up a pair from this basic tutorial.  I absolutely love the results and Liam has refused to take them off since he put them on this morning (except when I was taking pictures, to which he agreed reluctantly).  I can’t wait to make so many more for my boy!
